Phew! It has been a white since I have written – my apologizes! Well, since my last post I have officially become a college graduate (grad pic of me and my boy below), and moved back home to NJ. I miss Burlington dearly, but I have plans with my boyfriend to travel out west at the end of the summer to catch the end of the Phish summer tour. I have never been to Cali, but have been drawn to the state for as long as I can remember. Perhaps I will find my new home out there? But in the meantime, I suppose I need to finish unpacking the last four years of my life into one tiny room…. But enough about me, lets talk bling!

One of my guiltiest pleasures is my love for oversized fashion items. From tops, to scarves, even hats – the bigger the better! Recently, I have been applying this to my jewelry as well. Statement necklaces are my new fav, but I also have been experimenting with extra large earrings. As for piercings, I have two holes in both ears, top cartilage pierced on my right ear, and my lower rook on the left. I have always tried to be mindful of not going over the top with ear accessories, because keeping it classy is key, but recent trends and inspiration have proved that it may be possible to do both!

Pearls are usually a little to preppy for my personal taste, but this bold look takes them from safe to fashion forward. Yes, they make a statement – but I think it’s a pretty trendy one. Best part is, fake pearls are easy to find and usually quite affordable!

The coral and turquoise colors are right on target when it comes to “it colors” this summer. I like that the first hole is the statement earring, while all the others just compliment it.

Not gonna lie, the first time I saw this photo I wanted to run down to the piercing salon and get my ears pierced all the way up exactly like this. I exercised self control, but I still think this look is awesome and so different. The reason this works is because the earrings are all small, fairly simple studs (with the exception of the small hoop). Since I love big hoops and elaborate earrings I don’t know that I would be able to pull this off, but I still adore it!

Last but not least. I love this idea because it is understated and chic. It doesn’t make a huge statement, but it is still fun and adventurous. I am thinking about going for it.

What do you all think? xoxo

Summer of Bustier Tops

This season is all about bustier tops. The term “bustier” has taken on a completely new meaning, from something more risque than fashion forward, to a totally wearable wardrobe essential for this summer. Not only do these tops make the “girls” (ehem) look great, but their tight nature also helps suck you in a bit and creates smoother lines. This may not be the best trend to rock at an event where lots of beer and food is going to be consumed, but we all suffer a little for fashion sometimes, right?

Here are some of my favorite looks:

I am really into pairing a bustier top with high waisted denim shorts. I adore wearing grunge with a feminine twist, so you can bet this will be one of my go-to outfits this summer.

A more traditional bustier top can be played down by adding modern, on-trend additions. These tribal print, high waisted shorts give the outfit a fashion forward flare, while still covering the belly area to keep the look chic rather than promiscuous.

I know, I know. This Mara Hoffman bustier top is to die for. Despite it’s teensy size, it’s possible to keep this look high fashion by simply being mindful of proportions. If you have very little on top, add more on the bottom. That’s why a maxi is the perfect addition.

Last but not least – a full skirted bustier dress is another great way to play with proportions. I find this look to be particularly flattering on my body type, because I’m bigger on top than on bottom. The fitted top creates a clean shape, while the full skirt gives the illusion that I have more of an hourglass figure than I actually do. This shape is also great for girls who lack curves, or have more of an athletic build.

Statement Shorts

One of the hugest trends for this upcoming summer is statement shorts. Whether it is tie-dye, tribal print, or lace, denim shorts are no longer just the essential addition to an outfit with a really cute top, but are now taking the stage themselves! Here are some of my favorite looks.

Although studs aren’t really my thing, I do adore the not-too-over the top tie-dye and distressing. This would look super cute with a feminine yet trendy bustier on top.

Tribal printed shorts. This trend is all over this season. Tone down the bold print with a simple tank or oversized tee on top. This leaves a lot of room to play with jewelry! You can either take the natural route, or glam it up with bright metals.

Lace detailing leaves so much room for creativity! You can either keep this look soft by playing into the femininity of the lace, or make it edgy by going off of the distressed detailing that comes along with most denim shorts. I love the idea of mixing hard and soft, and obviously this look would be perfect topped off with a pair of Jeffrey Campbells.

This is the end, beautiful friends…

Man oh man. I just took my last exam of my undergraduate career today. I have a final presentation tomorrow afternoon, actually based on my upcycled line, renamed Little Green Dress (I will post a link to the website when it’s up and running), and then I am finished with college academia. I felt strangely nostalgic walking around campus today, and  for the first time it truly hit me – “where the hell the last four years go?” In high school it was all about finally escaping to college, to another place away from home. Every time I went back to NJ for thanksgiving or winter break, I always knew that Burlington would be right there waiting for me to get back. Now this whole life here that has been built, with friends who have become family, experiences that have moved me forever, and an education that has completely changed my view on the world, will all come to a close on May 20th. I saw this quote and thought that nothing could be more suiting.

I know it sounds like I’m like, super depressed and everything, but I’m not. I really am ready to move on and see what else this world has to offer. It’s just strange because as I walked passed my old dorms, all of the memories hit me like a ton of bricks. I can’t believe I haven’t realized the intensity of this moment until just today. I truly do understand now why everyone said to me, “enjoy it and don’t take it for granted, because they’re the best years of your life”. I just rolled my eyes and thought, “oh yeah? then you write my midterm paper”. well, they were right. I know that this is a fashion blog, but I just felt that this huge life change deserves some recognition, as it is kind of all I can think about at the moment.
